It’s the story that seemed would never end; we first heard it all the way back in January/February time. Where will Dwight Howard go? As the trade deadline moved closer, no deal was done, or for that matter, even close. Howard then claimed that he wanted to finish the year in Orlando, which he did by on the sideline due to an injury.

After the basketball season, we all knew that the trade talks with Orlando and pretty much anyone would heat up, and that is exactly what it did. The team that seemed the most interested was the Brooklyn Nets, in fact, they have had on-going trade talks with them in hopes to inquire the dominate center. Howard seemed to like that idea, even saying that Brooklyn is the only team, he will sign an extension with.

Earlier this week, it seemed almost a guarantee that Howard would become a Net. Orlando had four teams involved trying to get rid of Howard, and to send him to Brooklyn. However, according to ESPN New York Howard has yet to be moved, and even more, the talks between the Nets and Magic have now stopped completely. This could start back up soon, but not likely. However, I am not surprised, and if you were a Net fan you should be excited. The Nets re-signed Brooke Lopez to a max-contract, so not only could the Nets trade him, but they would have to trade his big contract with him.

Is Lopez as good as Howard? No, way but he has the potential to be great; he is still a young player with huge up-side, and I fully expect this trade talk, will fuel him to become a better player.

Everyone hates LeBron James for his “decision”; well, Howard isn’t that far away from that level. He arguably got a coach fired, asked for a trade, and now is demanding where he should play, in Brooklyn. Of course, he wants to play there. He would pair up with Joe Johnson and Deron Williams, to create the newest big-three. The days when teams built championship teams from the ground up have been replaced, with “super-teams”.

The Nets will be a better team without Howard. When you receive a superstar like Howard, you have to worry about the drama that comes with him. He has already proven that he is full of that. Nets’ fans can still be excited about this team, and they shouldn’t be to disappointed that they didn’t land Howard. Just give Lopez some time, and I bet you will end up being happier with him as your star center.
